Taxonomy codes are identifiers that categorize healthcare providers by type, classification, and area of specialization. Providers must identify their practice area by associating taxonomy codes with their National Provider Identifier (NPI), and designating one as the primary taxonomy code.

Our system uses taxonomy codes to determine the specific type of benefits a patient is eligible for. Typically, there’s no need to specify a taxonomy code in verification requests, as we automatically reference the primary taxonomy code linked to the provider’s NPI. However, if benefits associated with a secondary taxonomy code are desired, it can be specified explicitly in the Create Verifications API request.

Currently, our platform exclusively supports taxonomy codes related to behavioral healthcare. You can find a detailed list of available taxonomy codes here.
